Maandi Relief September, 2010

Maandi Relief
The rise in the level of the Ryu River due to the heavy rainfall that occurred on the 23rd, 24th and the 28th of August, 2010 caused flooding in various parts of Chitwan- Madi area having suffered the most. Hundreds of people were displaced and many more lost their properties i.e. land, crops, houses, personal belongings, food that they had stored, livestock and others.

The primary need that was seen was that of providing immediate food aid as the food that the people had stored were washed away or destroyed. They didn’t have provisions even to last them a few days. The local government and various government organizations initially provided some food items to the affected but was enough to last them for only a few days. Another problem was that of sanitation which if unaddressed could invite health problems.

Caritas Nepal thus responded with food aid and hygiene promotional kit.
